Over the
years, the Evergreen Club of Ghana (ECOG) has not only engaged itself
with tree planting and environmental education but also engaged with
promoting the welfare of children and young people through education and
awareness creation in all corners of the country. In some instances we
have been involved in the settlement of issues affecting a couple of
children.
In all our dealings with children
and young people, we realized that they need a medium or an interface
through which they can channel their problems to for effective solution.
It is in the light of this, that we at ECOG welcomed with joy the news
that CHL International is about to establish a branch in Ghana to assist
children and young people in distress and in emergency situations.
We at ECOG view the protection of
children as everybody’s duty and hence all hands must come on deck to
ensure a sound and secure world where children are not trafficked,
forced into labor and prostitution and all forms abuse against children.
As our contribution to ensure that this help line succeed ECOG is
planning to establish an outreach unit within its operational structure
to help children and young people in emergency situations in all areas
in the country where we are operating. This unit will also work in
collaboration with ChildHelpline Ghana and where necessary with Domestic
Violence Support Unit of the Ghana police Service.
The child help line is a phone and
outreach service which it is accessible to all children whenever they
are in emergency/need assistance or protection against danger. A toll
free telephone line will be accessible to all children and young people
in Ghana around the clock and there will be personnel available to
attend calls 24/7. Phone calls are received in contact centers, where
helpline staff and volunteers attend to calls.
It provides children and young
people the opportunity to express their concerns and issues affecting
them because it is their right.
