On 5th June 2001
the Evergreen Club of Ghana (ECOG) was a proud winner of the United
Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) Global 500 Roll Of Honour Award.
ECOG was among 19 other organizations from 500 NGOs selected worldwide
in recognition of their contributions towards the protection of the
environment. The award ceremony took place in Turin, Italy. The award
has been set aside by the United Nations.
In a citation, the Executive
Director of the UNEP Klaus Toepfer said, “as a defender of the
environment, ECOG is an active partner in the struggle for environmental
protection. Your members do not seek rewards, but their achievements
richly deserved to be recognized. UNEP is indeed honoured to pay tribute
to their commitment and we hope that this recognition will encourage
ECOG to continue its work”.

Sakeena K. Bonsu expressed the organization`s gratitude to all who have
in diverse ways demonstrated their love and support towards the cause of
environmental protection.
